International

When a loved one is missing overseas, it may be useful to contact a local service in the country the person is missing for assistance. Most countries have no central records or agency that deals with missing persons’ matters, but the UK Missing Persons Unit page contains links to international organisations that may be able to assist if a friend or relative is missing abroad. Click here to access.

The list is not exhaustive but an indication of some of the services that may be able to assist.

Europol (The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation) was formerly known as the European Police Office and Europol Drugs Unit. It is the law enforcement agency of the European Union (EU) formed in 1998 to handle criminal intelligence and combat serious international organised crime and terrorism through cooperation between competent authorities of EU member states. The Agency has no executive powers, and its officials are not entitled to arrest suspects or act without prior approval from competent authorities in the member states.

UK & Northern Ireland

​​Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI)

Missing People is the only charity in the UK which is dedicated to bringing missing children and adults back together with their families.

Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust A Northern Ireland based Charity, aims to alleviate the financial hardship of bereaved families repatriating the body of loved ones who have died abroad in sudden or tragic circumstances, back to Ireland.

Lucie Blackman Trust provides families with information, liaison, advice and support throughout a missing person's case overseas.

Albania

Children's Human Rights Centre of Albania Charity in Albania part of the Global Missing Children's Network.

Australia

The National Missing Persons Coordination Centre The National Missing Persons Coordination Centre (NMPCC) is a non-operational arm of the Australian Federal Police (AFP). Contact: missingpersons.gov.au/contact-us

Manu Association An organisation that assist with the search for missing persons.

Greece

The Smile of the Child run the Greek Centre for Missing and Sexually Exploited Children.

Italy
National Consultation for Missing Persons established in Italy by a commissioner's decree in 2019.
The Penelope Association was born from the need to give support to all the people who find themselves catapulted into the limbo of the disappearance of a relative or friend.


The Netherlands
National Police (Politie) includes cases of missing persons and unidentified persons in The Netherlands.

Romania

General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police Publicity of missing persons cases in Romania.

Spain
SOS Desaparecidos is an association that can assist with publicity for missing persons and provide support to families of missing.

Global

The Doe Network is a 100% volunteer organisation devoted to assisting investigating agencies in bringing closure to national and international cold cases concerning missing and unidentified persons website has helped to secure information which has resulted in missing children being found.

National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation whose mission is to help find missing children, reduce child sexual exploitation, and prevent child victimisation. NCMEC works with families, victims, private industry, law enforcement, and the public to assist with preventing child abductions, recovering missing children, and providing services to deter and combat child sexual exploitation.
